Please note: Preregistration for this event is mandatory for security and tour preparation purposes. Unregistered participants will not be able to show up at MD Anderson and expect to participate in the field trip.

Description:  MD Anderson’s mission is to eliminate cancer. Their Learning and Training programs are one example of their fervent commitment to research-driven cancer cure and comprehensive educational programs to enable current and future generations to join the fight to end cancer. MD Anderson has over 20 state-of-the-art leadership, professional, and technical programs in four general areas: degrees and programs, clinical and research training, nursing education, and professional education.

For the field trip, the main goal is to highlight the importance of life-long learning and career development for MD Anderson employees. Discover the environment employees work in and how these learning teams ensure that employees get the knowledge, skills and have the opportunity to practice and develop their competencies. Participants will have the opportunity to meet with these learning groups in a mini-expo and network with other attendees during a networking event.

ATD Competency Model - Area of Expertise This Session Supports: Managing Learning Programs, Learning Technologies, Training Delivery, Instructional Design

Speaker:  Mickey Donnelly, Ph.D., Director of Talent Development

Mickey holds a doctorate in Organizational Psychology, and has been actively engaged in both the theory and practice of developing work related skills for 30 years. He began as Research Psychologist for the United States Air Force, and moved from there to Director of Professional Development at Young and Rubicam Advertising. He is currently Director of Talent Development at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.

Dr. Donnelly’s interest in learning began early, growing up in a house with two teachers for parents. Experience in the classroom in over 45 countries created a passion for finding better and better ways of blurring the lines between learning and work. Technology provides opportunities to change how we deliver learning, making it more available and more seamless.

Host: Janice Marie Simon, M.A.,CPO®, Project Director inFaculty & Academic Development

Janice has a MA degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She has worked as a newspaper journalist in Oklahoma and Texas, including The Galveston County Daily News, and as a media coordinator for Galveston I.S.D. before joining M.D. Anderson. She is a Certified Professional Organizer and a member of the National Association of Professional Organizers.

As a project director, she handles the planning for some of the department’s Faculty & Academic Development events, including the Faculty Leadership Academy. As a professional organizer, she also makes departmental presentations on organizing and time management and offers one-on-one organizing sessions for clients throughout the institution.
