Description

Basic Video Production for Non-Experienced Training Video Producers

The goal of this presentation is to provide the participants the basic information needed to create simple training videos that have a professional appearance.  

During this session, the audience will be shown techniques to improve the common type of training videos characterized as screencasts.  Methods of improving audio quality will be reviewed, including how to narrate in an effective manner.  

Other types of simple video productions available to the training video producer, beyond simply screencasts, will be discussed including talk shows, interviews, dramas, and video conferencing.  In addition, suggestions for the basic video equipment needed and how to use the equipment will be made.  Questions from the audience will be encouraged throughout the presentation.

Teaching Objectives:

The participants will:

  • Become familiar with basic video production techniques for in-house, screencast, and studio training videos
    • Narration
    • Talking head inserts
    • Lighting
    • Distractions
  • Become familiar with two, easy to use, screencast video software applications and one PowerPoint video application
    •  Jing
    • Screencast-o-Matic
    • Zentation

Speaker Bio

Dr. Richard A. Smith is a Member of the Contributing Faculty at Walden University where he teaches courses in the area of integrating technology into instruction and using ethnic and language diversity to enhance student academic achievement.  He is also a Walden University host for their faculty professional development webinars.  Previously, he was Clinical Associate Professor of Instructional Design and Technology in the School of Education at the University of Houston – Clear Lake.  At UHCL Dr. Smith taught courses such as, Digital Video Production for Educators and Trainers, Interactive Distance Education, and Applications of Technology.  He is the author of numerous articles in instructional technology magazines.  In addition, Dr. Smith is also the producer and host of the YouTube video series, “Technology and Education Today.”

Dr. Caroline M. Crawford is Associate Professor of Instructional Design and Technology in the School of Education at the University of Houston – Clear Lake where she teaches master’s degree level courses such as Advanced Applications of Technology, Multimedia Design, and Multimedia Development.  Dr. Crawford is the author of over seventy international, national, and regional refereed journal articles in the area of instructional technology.  She is also the co-producer and co-host of the YouTube video series, “Technology and Education Today.”  In addition, Dr. Crawford serves as an instructional design consultant.
