The MD Anderson Leadership Institute: A Journey of Growth, Innovation, and Impact

Leadership is not a position—it’s a practice that evolves through vision, courage, and collaboration. The MD Anderson Leadership Institute was established to develop leaders at every level who can advance our mission to end cancer. This talk will highlight the institute’s journey, from its origins and guiding principles to the challenges faced and lessons learned along the way. Through stories of impact, reflections on what worked (and what didn’t), and a look ahead to the future of leadership development in healthcare, participants will gain insight into how intentional investment in people creates a culture of excellence and resilience.

Learner Objectives:

  • Identify key challenges and successes encountered in building a leadership development program within a leading academic medical center.
  • Apply lessons learned to their own leadership journeys and organizational contexts.
  • Recognize the importance of cultivating leadership at all levels to sustain mission-driven impact.
