Topic:   Studies have shown organizations that deliver on training and development objectives experience significant revenue growth and employee satisfaction. Meanwhile, shortcomings in training and development processes have an equally negative impact on the organization in terms of engagement and higher costs of poor employee performance and turnover.

Lee Webster – Secretary for ISO Technical Committee 260 for Human Resource Management – will explain how adopting the value chain approach to the training and development processes not only results in more efficient and effective practices that save money, but also have a positive impact on the employee experience and enhances your organization’s employer brand.

Speaker:   Lee Webster is currently UTMB’s Director of Employee Relations since June of 2016. He formerly was the Director of Talent Acquisition since September 2013. In his current role, he oversee HR services support for a 12,000 person academic healthcare organization. Prior to his tenure at UTMB, Lee served as the Director of HR standards for the Society for Human Resource Management. In this role, he was responsible for establishing the program of work and overseeing the development of organizational ANSI and ISO Human Resource standards. Lee served as the Chair of ISO TC 260 for HR Management. Lee is currently the Secretary for ISO TC 304 for Healthcare Administration, the future Secretary for ISO TC 260 for Human Resource Management, and the Chair of the Standards Engineering Society Certification Committee. In the past lee was Chair of the ANSI Organizational Member Forum (OMF) and an Executive Committee member on the ANSI Board.


Over a 20-year period prior to joining SHRM, Lee held important HR positions at Exxon Mobil, PepsiAmericas, and other international Fortune 500 firms. For several years, Lee has also been an adjunct professor in human resources and business strategy for Trinity, American, and Regent Universities. Prior to his civilian career, Lee spent several years in the military as an Infantry officer.

An active SHRM volunteer leader for many years, Lee has served as an item writer for the HR Certification Institute. He is currently the chair of the certification committee for the Standards Engineering Society. Lee holds a BS in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an MS in Management Systems from the University of Central Texas, and a JD/MBA from Northwestern University
