Do you have a Talent Management initiative in the works?
Have you gone through one you'd like to think about in retrospect?
This workshop will help you think through any initiative. However, for the purpose of the ATD Houston conference, John Eggert will use a talent management initiative as the case study. He will walk you through it, step by step, and you will be able to immediately apply what you learn to an initiative of your own.
DID YOU KNOW?
The majority of surveyed executives report that: Less than 30% of organizational initiatives have a significant impact that lasts more than 18 months!!
WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT?
Initiatives survive and succeed when leaders analyze and mitigate the risks, and employ practical tools for planning, analysis and risk-mitigation.
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
As leader entrusted with the success of new initiatives and ideas, and responsible for sustaining change, you need tools to succeed.
There are a gazillion models and tools to choose from. But you need a simple and practical framework and tools that you can use, regardless of the initiative
WHAT WILL YOU GET FROM THIS WORKSHOP?
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Apply a primary planning tool, a Success Factor Analysis tool and a Risk Assessment tool to ideas and initiatives
- Apply the Idea Leadership concepts and tools to a program you are leading, like Talent development, Coaching, Change management and Performance improvement

Workshop Facilitator:
John Eggert, President at The Idea Leadership Company -- Executive Coach in Technology-Oriented Organizations. John Eggert received his Ph.D from the University of Chicago in 1973, with an emphasis on measurement and statistics in social science research. Since then, his professional focus has been on “what makes ideas work.” This issue arose early in his career as he worked with public sector clients including the National Science Foundation and the Centers for Disease Control. He noticed that there was rarely a lack of good ideas in these organizations, but there was often a lack of execution and impact.
Eggert then turned his attention to the business sector, establishing his own consulting firm with a client base including General Motors, Citibank, Motorola, Hewlett/Packard, McDonald’s and Arthur Andersen. Again, he observed excellent ideas getting stuck, wasting resources and having limited impact.
The result of his observations and research led him to create a practical framework and tools to help analyze and mitigate risks faced by ideas to increase their survivability. This framework is described in his book, Leading Through Ideas: A Practical Framework.
Since moving to Houston, in 2005, Eggert has focused his executive coaching business primarily on technology-oriented professionals from energy sector companies such as British Petroleum, National Oilwell Varco and Transocean.
Eggert’s current coaching, consulting and speaking work focuses on helping executives and their teams, as well as high potential managers, understand how they can ensure the ideas of themselves, their organizations and their initiatives impact those they most need to influence.
